OKI Microline 521 Dot Matrix
Artspace's New Artists Show Part II - Drinking From The Fire Hose was a group exhibition about the excess of material on the internet. The exhibition lasted three weeks with and event each week.
Each event was accompanied by a text written by Will Pollard. I encountered a Mircoline at a charity shop still in use (!!) as part of their cash register, and then found one on trade-me for $1. Perfect for an exhibition of obsolete, re-purposed objects. Close Quarters co-erced this printer to print texts on loop, and even managed to get an image out.
The texts were presented at the exhibition in the classic perforated reem stacks, to be ripped of by visitors. The obsolete nature of the printer, and its sourcing, mimicked much of the re-purposed materials in the exhibition.
Close Quarters was Gabi Lardies, Anj Smuga, Eva Charlton and Grant Priest.
